ABOUT THE MAKER
Roxy Sequeira is the designer / maker and founder behind the brand Floral Fox Jewellery.
I was born and raised in South Africa, I moved to the UK when I was 26 years old.
I tend to drift back to my childhood in South Africa, spending weekends with my parents and younger sister, wandering through a place called Ferncliff, the trails to the waterfall was always my favourite, to see the beautiful tiny white toadstools sitting in the emerald green moss, shimmering in the sunlight from the water splashing over them,my eyes would light up when I saw them. I always had a bag and tweezers with me, collecting little pieces of nature which now translate into the tales and trinkets I create out of reclaimed silver, that come with the enchanting magic within nature using texture, almost like it's been lost in the earth for a while with beautiful stories woven through each piece. Those are some of my most cherished memories and that is the nostalgia I hope my jewellery can unearth deep in a person's soul, grounding them in a moment of calm and joy. When creating the pieces using only reclaimed silver, I have an idea but I follow a flow to freely create which you will see are organic in nature, like tales told on the dents and scratches of pre-loved items. My parents are very creative and we were never short of learning a new craft growing up. I learnt a lot from them and they have always believed in my dreams and pushed me to pursue them, even if they didn't work out, at least I gave it a good go! My Mum, sister and I were chatting one day and I asked for help finding the name, we spent the afternoon throwing ideas around and that is how Floral Fox Jewellery was born.
I started out with an evening jewellery course at the local community college in 2018 after I had my first daughter. I fell in love with the process and I have spent this time building up from my dining room table to my small home studio and loved every moment along the way ( even the “what the hell am I doing” stages ) . I am mostly self taught since then, with a lot of blood, sweat and tears along the way.
The pieces I create hold their own stories that will call out to your soul and hold your wild magical tales, connecting you with nature, family and your own memories, the comfort of grounding you to your home, wherever that may feel the most peaceful.
So, please join me on this journey creating all these enchanting adornments, let's see where it takes us.
I would love to hear your stories and if you have any questions please contact me.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE AND STUDIO SPACE
I have slowly built up my studio from starting out on my small dining room table and making my way up to a small studio room at home. I have bought tools brand new but my favourites are the tools I’ve acquired over the years from my Dad and other elders in a few different crafts. I love old used tools with history that have been lovingly used in creating soulful trinkets and hand forged pieces. You can follow along through my blog and social media, you will see I have many trinkets and treasures laying around that I have collected since childhood and I’ll delve into more memories from my life in South Africa and the UK along the way.
The jewellery I make is handcrafted so there will be markings from tool work,I create with character and soul.
